Domaine Mongeard-Mugneret’s 2012 Grands Echézeaux is a brilliant young wine, offering up a deep and very pure nose of plums, black cherries, cocoa, gamebirds, woodsmoke, a very complex base of soil tones and a fine base of vanillin oak. On the palate the wine is pure, full-bodied and sappy at the core, with excellent nascent complexity, ripe tannins and superb focus and grip on the very long and still very primary finish. All the constituent components are in place for greatness down the road, but one will need some patience!
