Raul Perez Ultreia de Paluezas Bierzo, Spain 2022
The Ultreia Paluezas is the bottling that stops Raúl Pérez in his tracks every vintage — and the reason is in the ground. Where almost all of Bierzo sits on slate, this tiny parcel rests on limestone, a rarity that lends the wine a finesse and lift found nowhere else in the range. Perfumed and elegant, it is more Burgundian than Rhône in spirit: floral and red-fruited on the nose, velvety on the palate, framed by very fine, chalky tannins.
From roughly 0.4 hectares — with a whisper of old-vine Palomino in the blend. → A few barrels, and that is all. This is the connoisseur's Ultreia.
- Mencía with a small portion of old-vine Palomino, Bierzo
- Rare limestone parcel — the source of its signature finesse
- Native fermentation; matured in 225L and 500L oak
- ~0.4 ha parcel — produced in tiny quantity
